Halit Ziya Usaklıgil Secondary School Usak/Turkey

Our school has started its educational service at the beginning of 1961. Before then this building had been used as a provincial directorate of national education for nearly 10 years. Going down the earlier years like 1920, we can say that this construction was a refectory of a Christian Church.

Today, there are nearly 750 pupils studying at our school. They are aged between 11 and 15 and their level starts from 5 to the 8. I mean we classify their level as 5th grade, 6th grade and so on. Talking about the staff, we may divide our school into two separate units. The administration part has three staff, one is the head teacher or director, the other two are co-directors. In education part, there are 45 teachers including each discipline from Science, Maths, English to ICT, History and Geopgraphy…

What about facilities? Our school has one ICT and one Science labaratory where students are able to see, touch and use the related materials. Moreover, there is a counsellor who exist continuously at the school; leading and assisting all the pupils not only about their troubles but their future plans. There is a gym, as well. It is used for P.E lessons and presentations such as theatres and competitions.

Our school is also experienced in EU projects. We carry out an eTwinning project called “Great Heights with eKites” with Scotland, aiming to organize an international kite festival in last week of April, Moreover, we have recently finished a Comenius project as well, “Vivre Mon College”. In this project the language was French and the aim was to consider the possible causes and solutions of drop-outs at schools.
